Picnic • Brand

Synopsis
Gen Z is known for taking lots of photos. One afternoon between five friends can result in upwards of 1000 shots in total, but there’s no convenient way for the group to share them all with each other, without compressed picture quality, upload limits or boring admin. This is where Picnic comes in.

Picnic is a B Corp on a mission to build social media that’s good for our social health, with a focus on creating the easiest way to swap photos.

As the Creative Lead at Picnic, my role touched on all parts of the business, but the brand was my baby. I built it around three main values that are important to Gen Z and our online lives; simple, social and secure.

Gen Z can spot a millennial coming from a mile off, so it was important to make sure the brand was cool and authentic without feeling too try-hard. The brand elements work together to blend nods to the app UI and the memory-building hand-drawn personality of a scrapbook.

Photography reinforces the brand’s authenticity by using a mix of UGC and natural stock photography – with a lean towards analogue colours and textures to provide the nostalgic feeling of looking back on great moments.
